Amazon EVS Expands to Seoul, Zurich, and Stockholm
AWS's VMware-on-cloud service reaches three more regions, giving enterprises more options for data residency and latency.
Is Amazon EVS available in Europe and Asia Pacific?
Yes. As of July 23, 2026, Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS) is available in three additional AWS regions: Asia Pacific (Seoul), Europe (Zurich), and Europe (Stockholm). The expansion gives enterprises running VMware workloads on AWS more choices for geographic proximity, data residency, and redundancy.
What Amazon EVS does
Amazon EVS lets customers run VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) directly inside an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud, on EC2 bare-metal instances backed by AWS Nitro. The service is designed to let teams spin up a complete VCF environment within a few hours, rather than procuring and racking physical hardware.
The pitch is primarily aimed at organizations looking to exit aging on-premises data centers, reduce operational risk, or hit tight migration deadlines. Because the VMware stack runs natively inside a VPC, teams can use familiar VMware tooling without retooling workloads for a cloud-native architecture first.
What the new regions add
The three newly available regions address a few distinct enterprise concerns. Closer proximity to end users in South Korea and northern and central Europe reduces network latency for workloads that are sensitive to round-trip times.
The European additions are particularly relevant for organizations subject to data residency or sovereignty regulations, which often require that certain data remain within specific jurisdictions. Having VCF environments available in Switzerland and Sweden gives compliance teams more flexibility when structuring their AWS footprint.
For organizations already running Amazon EVS in other regions, the new locations also provide additional options for high availability architectures and geographically distributed redundancy strategies.
VCF version support
The expansion launches with full support for all existing Amazon EVS features. That includes compatibility with both VCF 9.0 and VCF 9.1, the latter of which introduces capabilities such as memory tiering.
